A named NOAA ocean buoy records a state of two independent physical worlds coinciding at one floating point: swell waves from a distant north Pacific storm (arriving from 310° WNW, 1.7m height, 8-second dominant period) while the local wind blows from a completely unrelated direction (200° SSW, 1.0 m/s). The storm that generated the swell is absent — not here, not locally felt, not visible — but its energy has arrived. The buoy makes a notation: this energy passed through here.
